This Notified Area Council was constituted on the 17th
April, 1972 Government in Housing & Urban Development Department
Notification No.18664/HUD., Dated.17.04.1972. The area of the Local
Body is 8.94 Square Kilometers (3.45 Square Miles). The population
according to 1971 Census was 6152. In 2001 Census the Population was
14263 and in 2011 Census the Population was 17623. It has been divided
into 16 Wards. This NAC is an ancient Town very famous for its Historical
importance tracing from Pre-Christian era for the Historical Saga, still
alive in the minds of the People known as World Famous Kalinga War
between Emperor Ashok and Odia Paika from Pipli on the Bank of Daya
River which now disseminates peace among the People all over the World.
The NAC is also renowned for its World famous Applique Work.
The local body derives its income from Pipli Hat, Daily Market,
Market Complex (Rent), Parking Fees, Holding Tax and Auction Sale of
Ponds etc. It also receives Grants from the State Government.
This N.A.C. has received awards 4 (Four) times for “The best
performing U.L.B of Puri District” during the past Years in the
Independence Day at Parade Ground, Puri and also the award at State
Level for the Year 2008-09, 2013-14 & 2014-15 from the Hon’ble Chief
Minister on the “Local Self Government Day” and Best Performance
Award to Pipli NAC for the Year 2015-16 with Twenty Five Lakh & Fifty
Lakh Cash Prize by the Hon’ble Chief Minister & Hon’ble Minister of
Housing & Urban Development Department, Odisha Bhubaneswar.
